The Brighter Bookshelf

Honest and helpful book reviews that always end with a silver lining.

Positively Bookish, or Bookish Positivity?

I love books. I love reading books. I love people who love to read books. So I thought I would love reading reviews of people who loved to read books.

I didn’t.

I noticed that MOST reviewers fall into one of two categories:

Category1: They LOVED. THE BOOK. and wrote a lot of spoilers and were clearly emotionally invested, but they didn’t comment on any of the literary talents that may (or may not!) have been used to write said book that was probably the primary reason they LOVED. THE BOOK.

Category 2: They HATED. THE BOOK. and were very clearly NOT invested emotionally to anything and instead spent a whole lot of their time writing very passionate reviews with, I think, the intent to make the author crawl into a hole and never come back out—because they HATED. THE BOOK.

Both categories of reviewers can be incredibly misleading to the average, easily swayed chap….so I set out to composite a stylish and liberating platform to write reviews that are honest, authentic, and most importantly, helpful—while always looking on the brighter side of each book. I’m determined to point out at least 1 reason to read the book—because writing a book is no small feat, and just because that particular book might not make it onto my bookshelf, doesn’t mean it can’t be on yours.
